SmartDisk PCI cards offer instant expansibility for computers that don't have FireWire (IEEE 1394) connectivity as standard. As more and more peripherals use this high performance standard you need SmartDisks easy-to-install cards to get your computer connected at maximum speed. The FireWire cards feature a direct power connector that allows safe FireWire "bus" powering of multiple devices. Cards without this feature draw all their power from the PCI bus, which can lead to instability problems.

The PCIFW FireWire PCI Card has 3 x 6-pin IEEE 1394 (FireWire) ports and transfers up to 400 Mbps. It includes a separate power connector for robust bus-powering of FireWire devices, i.e. not just PCI bus-powered. It works with both Windows and Mac, plus it allows hot-swapping of attached devices.

• PC Windows: No driver is needed for Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP since it is built into the operating system.

• Apple Macintosh: No driver is needed for Macintosh OS 9.1 – OSX since it is built into the operating system.
